"Make Your Mark" Bookmark Contest

Remember the old playground rhyme, “Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor …”? Or the jingle that called up, “The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker?”

Like you did when you were young, your child probably has a dream career in mind. That’s why you invest for his or her future qualified higher education expenses with a Utah Education Savings Plan (UESP) college savings account. Support that dream by encouraging your child to enter the “Make Your Mark” Bookmark Contest sponsored by UESP and Step Up Utah. He or she could be one of eight students to win a $1,000 UESP college savings scholarship account from UESP and Step Up Utah. Additionally, each winner’s professionally reproduced artwork may be handed out at UESP events around Utah.

The contest runs from Tuesday, September 1, 2015, to Wednesday, September 30, 2015, during National College Savings Month. It is open to Utah students in kindergarten through grade 12. A panel of judges that includes Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and First Lady Jeanette Herbert will select two winning designs from each of four grade categories. Contest winners will be notified by Monday, October 26, 2015. All decisions by UESP and the judges are final.

To be eligible, your child must be a Utah resident and enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12 at a Utah school or be home-schooled. His or her bookmark design must be submitted on the official entry form, accessible at Only one entry per student is allowed.

UESP must receive your child’s bookmark design no later than September 30, 2015, at 5:00 p.m., Mountain Time. The entry can be submitted to UESP by mail, courier, or hand delivery. Address information and a complete set of contest rules and restrictions are printed on the back of the official entry form.

The “Make Your Mark” contest is not open to past contest winners or children of an adult affiliated with the Utah State Board of Regents, Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority, UESP, Step Up Utah, or their advertising agencies.

Participants and parents are not required to own a UESP account.

Shark Challenge

The Shark Challenge is one way that we encourage students at Saratoga Shores to participate in physical activity. This year's challenge will run from September 14, 2015, through May 10, 2016. The Shark Challenge works as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program that Saratoga Shores participates in.

With parent permission, students can accept the challenge of exercising to reach 100 miles during the school year. Students can walk or run at school, and teachers will tally their miles. Students can also log miles at home and return signed log sheets to the student's teacher. Physical activity other than walking/running can also count toward the total; one hour of physical activity (such as soccer practice) = 1 mile. Students will be awarded a pin for every 25 miles earned; students who complete 100 miles or more will receive a medal at the end of the year.

You can click HERE to print the Shark Challenge flyer that includes a parent support form to return to your student's teacher.

Shark Runners Club

This season we will bring back our Shark Runners Club that runs/walks after school. There is a fall and spring session. Last year our Runners Club was able to participate in a cross-country meet with Hidden Hollow Elementary. We are planning at least one meet this year.

Our fall start date will be Friday, September 11. We run/walk from 3:30-4:15. This fall session meets every Friday and ends October 23. We may have to cancel if weather won’t allow us to run/walk.

Our spring session will run from Friday, April 8, through Friday, May 13.
